NEW NON-EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER HAS BEEN LAUNCHED WHICH IS -   101

101 is the new number to call when you want to contact your local police - when it's less urgent than a 999 call.  The three digit number can be used for reporting incidents which do not require an urgent response.

Neighbourhood Watch Scheme

After a number of local incidents gave cause for concern, a public meeting which took place in the village hall on 14th July 2009 saw six new ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ schemes start namely for Birtley, Brampton Bryan, Byton, Deerfold, Lingen & Willey.

The schemes were registered and made active - which in turn gave Lingen access to the monthly ‘Rural Bulletin’ compiled by West Mercia Police.  An on-line copy can be viewed here on the web site Police Bulletin  this is so all parishioners are aware of all local incidents which occur in their neighbourhood.

The Neighbourhood Watch signs, which are attached to the village nameplates had proven to be an active deterrent in other areas, so with this in mind, a door-to-door collection was made.  This collection was received with great support, nearly all residential houses giving freely to the scheme. Therefore, the cost of the three signs was met and a small amount was returned to all the contributors.  The fourth sign was purchased by Border Group Parish Council.

We are very pleased to say that crime here in Lingen is a rare thing and we hope to keep it that way.
