2015/2016 Season Lingen Carpet Bowls' Team Trevor Joseph of Cadwell reports on end of season: "not as successful as last year for Lingen but numbers staying up well and most enjoyable!"
Further Update from Kay: The winners of North Herefordshire Carpet Bowls League, singles Gill Price and doubles Herbert Edwards and Jean Evans , all from Lingen club, contested between Lingen, Breinton, Aymstrey, Wigmore and Titley. Good news that Shobdon will be rejoining the league next season.
The official opening of the Bowls evenings at Lingen was held on November 18th 1989, one year after the new hall was opened (July 1988). The Border Group Parish Council was invited along as they had managed the financial affairs of the new build of the hall and John Miles (BGPC Chairman) bowled the first wood of the night.
The bowls equipment was purchased with aid of a grant from 'Carnegie Trust' therefore enabling them to set up a league with Aymestrey, Brienton, Shobdon, Titley, & Wigmore for inter club competition and in 06/07 Lingen were the champions of the North Hereford Carpet Bowls.
The team meet at the village hall on Thursday evenings during the winter months - bowls is very much a game for either sex and for all ages - any new experienced or inexperienced folk would be most welcome. Just turn up at the hall 7.30pm on a Thursday - it would be best to ring Richard Davies (above number) before setting out to check they are playing at Lingen and not elsewhere.
An inexpensive and fun evening.
